General view of Awasgur Temple, Medinipur

Photograph of the Awasghar temple, part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections: India Office Series, taken by an unknown photographer in the 1870s. The temple consists of a square structure with sloping eaves, four angle towers and a larger central tower. The precise location of Awasgur is unidentified, yet the roughly square structure with a curved roofline leads one to assume this temple is in West Bengal. The architectural style defined and seen in this photograph is somewhat reminiscent of rural Bengali huts.
