This photograph of a mosque at Midnapur, Bengal was taken by Walter Campbell c.1869 and is part of the Archaeological Survey of India Collections (India Office Series). This is a general view of the exterior of the mosque, a small, triple-domed structure. The accompanying gateway is out of the picture frame. The mosque can be dated stylistically to the nineteenth century, and combines European and local influences in its use of engaged columns and arched doorways with three high domes topped with finials.
